Writing and the question of transfer

A multi-annual international research partnership regarding transitions and transfer potentials in connection with academic writing.

The study involves the way in which writing in foreign languages influences the discussion of transfer, as well as consideration of the particular cognitive potentials inherent in including this perspective.

Language competences are closely associated with identity, and one focal point for this work involves studying the potential identities available for Danish, Chinese-American and American students writing in foreign languages (English and Spanish).

The partnership is anchored at Elon University, North Carolina, USA. A research cohort will be facilitated at this location involving researchers from all over the world.

The project runs for the period 2011-2013 and involves annual seminars in Elon, regular contact and exchanges between small research groups, and a mini-conference in the summer of 2013.
