Doctoral supervision

is a obligatory course for doctoral supervisors at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University.

The course runs each semester in Aarhus and (Emdrup Copenhagen) alternately. The course is obligatory for new doctoral supervisors, and optional for experienced supervisors.

Course aim

The obligatory course is offered to all new doctoral supervisors at the Faculty of Arts. It is a process course that takes as its starting point the new doctoral supervisors’ understandings of their role and place in the organization through establishing

  1. What forms of pedagogy are embedded in different supervisor and student roles 
  2. An understanding of how the supervisor role evolves over time
  3. An awareness of organisational and environmental dimensions that influence doctoral supervision
  4. Practical tools to facilitate and cope with troublesome areas

Course progress

The obligatory course runs over two full workshop days and you must attend both days. The course is structured around presentations and workshops including exercises and the use of cases and video clips. It includes practical tools and exercises on the workshop days.
